Sweatshop-free, fair trade, and overseas goods only from facilities with real pay standards.

  • Plastic Free & Refill

What you'll find

A shop full of things that earn their shelf.

Four walls of clothing, plants, records and gifts — chosen by Alanna for design, colour and community, and chosen to do a little less harm.

Vinyl, CDs & Audio

New and used records, cassettes, turntables and speakers. The music side of the shop, run by Kevin.

Clothing & Accessories

Market of Stars kimonos and dusters, jewelry, hats and scarves from ethical, small-batch makers.

Plants, Home & Body

Living plants, decor, shampoo bars, solid perfumes, tarot and Pyrrha talismans. Refill and re-use, right here.

A peek inside

What's on the shelves right now.

A rotating, hand-picked mix. Come see it in person — the photos only tell half the story.

Our story

We're Kevin and Alanna.

We opened Modern Alchemy and Public Vinyl in downtown Creston in late 2020 to bring our passions to the community. For Kevin, it's the connection made while sharing a love of music. For Alanna, it's design, colour, community and nature — the keys to finding the right product mix.

We commit at least three quarters of the shop to goods that are made in BC or Canada, made ethically or fair trade, and that leave a smaller footprint: renewable, recycled, plastic-free, refillable. Some, like Heartprint Threads blankets, give back with every sale.
